Below, you will find our specials schedule for the year. Please note that our PE day is Monday. Please make sure students either wear appropriate shoes or bring them to school. Thanks!

Our classroom looks a little different than most. We are a flexible seating zone. This means our classroom does not have the traditional "desk and chair for each student" arrangement that you may be used to seeing. Our classroom looks more like a coffee shop, or maybe your living room. I firmly believe that we all learn a little better when we are comfortable, and when we have choices in the area we choose to work. We will be using the "best fit seat" model this year. You choose the seat that works for you, changing and moving your location when necessary. There are no assigned seats or workstations. In fact, you aren't even required to sit. There are also standing stations that will allow you to stand if that is what feels best to you.
While there are no assigned seats, this does not mean that every day will be a free for all as students rush to find a spot to work. We will be organized about selection of best fit seats, and there will be certain times throughout the day that you may choose a new spot. We will go over all the seating options and HOW we go about choosing these seats on the first day of school. Rest assured that you will have plenty of choice, and that everyone will have a comfortable work station each day. I can't wait for you to see our room! Link: info.flipgrid.com
Password: Palisades /A few weeks ago, all the Palisades teachers were asked to create a Flipgrid video to introduce themselves to the students. There are several new teachers at Palisades this year. Check out the videos by following the link above! Below is our daily schedule. We will be switching classrooms with other fifth grade teachers for our Dragon Club block, and we will do rotations with Mrs. Cook and Mrs. Bauer for reading. Specials will be a rotating schedule of Library, Art, Music, and PE. I will post a monthly specials calendar on the blog.
Daily Schedule 8:10-8:55 Specials 9:00-10:00 Math 10:00-10:45 Dragon Club (Classroom Rotations) 10:45-11:30 Social Studies 11:30-12:15 Science 12:15-12:40 Lunch 12:40-1:00 Recess 1:00-1:10 Silent Reading 1:10-2:10 Reading (Rotations with Mrs. Cook/Mrs. Bauer on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) 2:10-2:45 Writing 2:45-2:50 Planners Snacks/Drinks: Our mornings can be rather long. Please send a healthy snack with your child. A large box or bag of something to be kept in the locker is fine, as long as it seals. Students are welcome to bring water bottles and keep them in the room all day. Students are permitted to chew gum if they like, so this can be brought in as well.
Specials Schedule: A specials schedule is attached. Our PE Day is Monday, so please be mindful that your child will need sneakers on this day. Friday will be a rotating schedule, which is found on the attached calendar. Tomorrow and Friday, students will rotate to all four specialist teachers. Sneakers are not necessary this week. Classroom Temperature: Our classroom tends to be cold all year long. I recommend each child bring a hoodie or light jacket to keep in their locker just in case! Going Home: I know that schedules are often different the first few days of school. Please make sure your child knows how they are getting home tomorrow and Friday. If they will normally attend Kids Connection, but won’t be going tomorrow, please make the KC staff aware if this. If they ride the bus, please double check that they have their bus pass! A Book to Read: We have a block of silent reading EVERY day. I have an extensive collection of books for students to borrow, however, if your child is currently reading a book, please encourage them to bring it to school tomorrow! Electronic Communication. In an effort to cut down on paper, most communication from me will be via email and through the class website. Should you wish to have paper copies of these communications (newsletters, updates, schedules, etc.) please let me know ASAP. Newsletters will be posted to the class webpage on Friday afternoons. Planner Signatures: The students use the planner as a daily agenda. Each day, they will write in what we will be doing in each subject. If they should have work that needs to be completed at home, this will be written in red pen with a “bubble” drawn next to it so they can check it off. Each student is asked to read for 20 minutes each evening (Monday-Friday). I ask parents to sign their child’s planner each evening, only after work has been completed. This is a great way to keep up on what is happening in the classroom, and it helps students build some accountability for work completion. Planner signatures factor into our “Buccaneer Bucks” classroom economy (more on this Friday!) so students are typically pretty motivated to get their planners signed. Thank you in advance for your help in this matter. |
