Brace yourself for an amazing school year! Look at it this way, you're essentially the "seniors" of Palisades. Younger grade levels look up to you, teachers look to you for assistance, and you get to participate in activities that no other grade level gets to do. I may be a little biased, but that makes for a sweet year!
First up is KPES News. Everyone in the school tunes in to you each morning! You are in charge of writing the script, performing the news broadcast, and sharing the results with the school. A little fame is always fun! Next up is being part of the kitchen crew. Ms. Sue and the staff who fix lunches at Palisades are some of the greatest ladies I know, and they LOVE the assistance our fifth graders offer each day. You get to go behind the scenes in the kitchen and help with the food prep and service. Plus, you get to wear some pretty stylish hats. Ms. Sue is usually pretty generous with treats for her special helpers. Sounds like a win-win to me! Another thing that's unique to fifth grade are DARE classes. DARE stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education, and these classes are taught by an Omaha Police Officer. Our Deputy is so entertaining and her classes are engaging and interactive. You will learn how to make safe and healthy choices, strategies for standing up to bullies, and a resistance model that makes decision making easy. Finally, you get to play a part in the Night of Memories program that is always the final production of the school year. Mr. Balcer crafts a program that wows everyone year after year...and this year it will be performed by YOU! Everyone gets involved, and there is plenty of opportunity for acting parts, singing parts, stage crew, and technical support. Of course, these are just a few of the major highlights from the year. I have so much planned for us and I can't wait to get started. This is going to be an AWESOME year!
